Legend: Described as "A gigantic dog with a blazing eye in the middle of its forehead." "A friend writes me that an acquaintance of his, whose father formerly lived at Salhouse, says that in his boyhood the Black Shuck scoured the country for some 12 miles round. 'He and his brothers went out at night armed with sticks to search for it - the people of the village thought they were going to certain death.'"
