"Many years ago in my teens when cycling in the late evening from Overstrand to West Runton on a rough, dark night I was believed to have encountered 'Old Shuck.' Describing my experience on my next visit to Overstrand, my aunt assured me I had met 'Old Shuck.' She knew the legend, I did not, but my uncle not wishing to scare me said it must have been a donkey straying from the half-year land in that area. However, I knew he was wrong; there was no sound of hooves, just a soft pad, pad, and the brushing close by me." |
