Place Name: Gillingham - OE: 'the homestead of Gylla's people'.

Location: Gillingham, NORFOLK
Encounter: The dog that haunts Dogs Lane was seen very early one morning in 1927 by a man named William Sturman. As he walked from the village northwards to his work at Lodge Farm (beside Raveningham Road), he saw "an enormous dog with luminous eyes" sitting at the corner of Dogs Lane. Although he ran away, the dog didn't follow him.

Location: Gillingham, NORFOLK
Encounter: Near the ruined tower of All Saints church (TM411923), a cyclist in 1913 saw a ghostly dog one night. He was pedalling quickly when the dog was suddenly 'there' in front of him. Expecting to be thrown from his cycle, just before he hit the dog, it ran away into the old, but still used, graveyard.
